How Tiang Amanah Came to Be
The practice was established in Kuala Lumpur after its founders observed a recurring problem: many Malaysians who had contributed faithfully to their pension schemes for decades were receiving less than they were owed — or nothing at all — without any clear explanation from the relevant authorities.
Most of those affected were older adults, sometimes with limited mobility or unfamiliarity with formal processes. Their adult children often helped where they could, but the correspondence from pension bodies was not written for a general reader. Small errors in employment records, uncredited contribution periods, or incorrectly applied deductions were going unnoticed and unchallenged.
Tiang Amanah was set up to close that gap. The name itself reflects the purpose: tiang means column or pillar, and amanah means trust or custodianship. We exist to stand alongside those who need steady, reliable support with a matter that matters greatly to them.
What We Do and Why
Our work covers three areas: full entitlement reviews with representation, appeals against reduced or refused payments, and consultation sessions for people who want to understand their situation before deciding anything.
We do not take on matters outside pension and retirement entitlements under Malaysian law. That focus allows us to know the relevant scheme rules, EPF regulations, and administrative processes in considerable depth. A narrow practice serves its clients better than a broad one where pension matters are one item among many.
Every client receives a written update at each stage. We do not assume that silence is acceptable just because the legal process is slow. If nothing has changed, we say so — and we say why.
The People Who Handle Your Matter
Each team member works on a limited number of matters at any one time. No file is passed between consultants without the client being informed.
Rahimah Haji Ismail
Principal Consultant
Fifteen years of experience in pension and retirement entitlement matters across the public and private sectors. Leads all complex representations and attends hearings on behalf of clients.
Chong Kok Leong
Case Reviewer
Specialises in tracing employment and contribution records for clients whose former employers are no longer operating or have changed names. Handles document retrieval and written submissions.
Nora Fauzi
Client Liaison
First point of contact for new clients and families. Coordinates appointments, ensures each client receives timely updates, and assists with the initial document preparation session.
Standards We Maintain
These are not aspirations. They are commitments that shape how each matter is handled from the first meeting to the last update.
Plain Language Communication
Every letter, update and explanation is written so that a person without legal training can read it and understand what it means without having to ask for clarification.
Written Updates at Each Stage
Clients are not left to wonder. A written summary is provided whenever a meaningful step occurs — including when a step has been delayed and we are waiting on a third party.
Honest Assessment of Prospects
Where the evidence does not support a strong case, we say so at the start rather than at the end. The decision to proceed always belongs to the client.
Personal Data Protection
All personal information, employment records and financial data are handled in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Nothing is shared without the client's written consent.
Clear Fee Structure
Fees for each service are stated at the outset. There are no additional charges unless a matter extends significantly beyond its original scope, in which case the client is informed and asked to agree before any further work begins.
Accessible Appointments
Meetings are available in person at our Jalan Raja Chulan office or by video call for clients who find travel difficult. Saturday morning appointments are available on request.
Pension Entitlement Assistance in Kuala Lumpur
The Employees Provident Fund and various public sector pension schemes govern retirement payments for millions of Malaysians. The rules covering each scheme are different, and the way deductions, contribution periods and scheme changes are applied can be difficult to follow without someone who works with these documents regularly.
Tiang Amanah works specifically in this area of law. We understand the difference between EPF savings and defined-benefit pension entitlements, how breaks in employment affect contribution records, and what evidence is most useful when challenging a decision by the relevant authority.
Our clients are mostly retirees in and around Kuala Lumpur, though we also assist those living in other parts of Peninsular Malaysia when the matter is suited to our services. Many first come to us after receiving a letter they did not fully understand, or after noticing that their monthly payment was lower than they expected.
We offer three distinct services — a full entitlement review, an appeal against a reduced or refused payment, and a consultation session — so that each client can choose the level of involvement that suits their situation and their circumstances.
